God’s plan for man is very elaborate and has always existed since creation. God is not a God of disorder and confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33). Everything that He does is well planned out. Therefore we should expect that our existence is part of His plan. Do we really understand this plan of His for our lives? It is important that we do so that our lives can be full of purpose. He says in Jeremiah 29:11, ‘For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.’ For a purposeful life, we are to know this plan He has for us and live according to it.

Why was man created?

  • To show the likeness of God (Genesis 1:26). This likeness includes key components such as physical, personality, and emotional characteristics. For example, we are only able to love because God is Love and that He first loved us.1
  • Man was also created to have dominion over all the created things (Genesis 1:26). He is to take charge and show leadership for himself and those around him.
  • He was to be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. (Genesis 1:28). Man is to procreate and have children. Any agenda formed against this such as same-sex marriage is against God’s original plan. God also planned that man should be fruitful in life, successful in business or career, and also be of good health. We are also to be fruitful spiritually and have the fruits of the Holy Spirit which include; Love, Joy, Peace, Long Suffering, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control (Galatians 5:22-23)
  • Man was created to work. (Genesis 2:15). He should work and provide for his household. (2 Thessalonians 3:10)
  • Man was created to bring Glory to God. (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14) There’s no higher calling. The first question in the Westminister Shorter Catechism2 asks, ‘What is the chief end of man?’ So to say, what is man’s purpose and duty in life? It answers, “Man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” That is the summary of the Christian life. Whatever we do, whether in word or in deed is to bring glory to God. (Colossians 3:17)

How can we ensure that we fulfill God’s plan in our lives?

We are to commit our ways before the LORD (Proverbs 16:3) and He will guide us as He has promised (Isaiah 30:21) We should be intentional about our relationship with God. Take time to be Holy, always communine with God, abide in Him and always feed on His word. By beholding we become changed into His likeness, for we are complete in Him.3 Always trust in God and allow to be led by the Holy Spirit.

“The greatest want of the world is the want of men—men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true and honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole, men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall.”
